Pests of March
So, according to a company specializing in viruses called Eset, the biggest pest is a creature called JS/Adware.Agent.AF. It is the most evil scoundrel imaginable. No, don\’t throw your computer out the window, it\’s not dangerous. It\’s just annoying and sneaky. In fact, when you get infected with this virus, it starts redirecting you to an advertising site. At first it\’s chilling,then it\’s frustrating,then it\’s infuriating,
then it\’s infuriating. You calmly click your browser\’s back arrow, and you\’re right back where you started. Well, that\’s it. It\’s not. The browser can\’t find the last page because the virus was/is able to delete it. Whoever created this and sent it to a shifty computer amateur was very clever. He must have gotten rich.
But fortunately, he made a mistake. The virus was sent in the form of a survey, where if you clicked on the answers, you would get a cell phone, for example. I still (naively) believe that no one clicked on it. I still (naively) believe that no one did, because everyone already knows that it would be hard to get such an expensive item with just a few clicks. Or?
Eset is leading me out of my naivete with exact numbers that I cannot and do not want to believe, but which are already true. I don\’t want to clutter this place up with various percentages, so I\’ll simply write that about 1 in 15 users received and clicked. That\’s a frightening number.
The other March malware that attacked computer owners\’ wallets and nerves the most wasHTML/Adware.Agent.A. and anotherWin32/Exploit.CVE-2017-11882. Damn, can\’t Eset pick a better sounding name?
Of course, there have been more viruses throughout the month, but the names are mostly similar, and most of them do not reflect the level of maliciousness or the activities of the person in question.
Now, there is nothing to do except check your anti-virus and don\’t trust the nonsense. Whether on websites or in private or company e-mails. If you do that, you will remain mostly level-headed.
